What is a Fire Pump?
Fire pumps increase water supply pressure to meet sprinkler system demands. They are typically required when municipal water pressure is insufficient, building height creates pressure challenges, large floor areas require high flow rates, or remote locations limit water supply.
NFPA 25 Testing Requirements
Weekly Testing (No-Flow)
Verify pump runs when started, check for unusual sounds or vibrations, confirm pressure readings, and document all observations.
Monthly Testing
Run pump and check all gauges, verify circulation relief valve operation, check coupling alignment, and inspect suction conditions.
Annual Testing
Full flow test at rated capacity, record suction and discharge pressures, verify motor amperage, test all safety devices, and inspect mechanical components.
